Balaton - Hungry in Hungary

One of our weekends away we decided to go to check Balaton - place where our parents and grandparents use to travel in summer back in the old days.So we wanted to discover how it looks like. What we find out was, that the Lake Balaton is really huge, to go from one side to other, it will take you days driving, so we had to use ferry, which was awesome. But back to what this blog is about - food, yes food it is. You expect coming down to south where all the amazing fruits and veg come from to eat like a king on holiday, well i minimum was. But we stayed close to party place Siofok and the food there looked awful. I can say just looked awful, because we tasted just once a restaurant there, which was pricey and food was not looking like on the picture they advertised :) Well lesson learned again - don’t eat food on promenades where you have the feeling it might not be tasty. So next days we used power of internet and looked for place with good reviews and we ended up here:

Piroska Csarda - Siofok

We tried some local rose wine which was very taste. And some meat based meals which tasted awesome. The portions were very large so we just shared traditional somloi galuska desert at the end. i will recommend to try food here, you can choose some traditional once as well as not. The restaurant is nicely decorated too, so the atmosphere was lovely to spend some evening hours here.

On the other side of the like from Siofok is the town called Tihany, which looks like a Mediterranean village in the hills, very nice to discover and walk around. On our last day of Balaton adventures we decided to go to explore this city and its food of course :) And so we ended up here:

Regi Idok Udvara Skanzen, Tihany

This restaurant looked very traditional, the surroundings was awesome (old woden statues and artefacts like in museum), food was traditional and pretty good too. What was missing was some politeness of the staff, as the restaurant was quite full they treated us not well, were rushing us to leave so they could serve other guests. I personally will not visit this place anymore as i like friendly staff which i didn’t experience here.

Levandula Ice cream

Very pretty little place, ice-cream bar with huge variety of ice creams. They have very wide selection of diary-free or stevia sweetened ice-cream which is quite rare and is a huge advantage. Ice cream tasted nice and you could choose from plenty of various flavours, of course levandula-flavour was one of them :)

Levandula shop&Coffee

This little shop is very pretty, it is a gift shop together with coffee place. They serve levandula coffee, which is not something really special, but they have various other levandula based product (sugar, sirup, chocolate…) to eat or for body use (shampoo, soaps, lipsticks…).
