Autumn in Prague

My two lovely girls took me for a gourmet weekend to Prague to discover some if it finest foods. We had great time not just around delicious food but we were lucky with awesome autumn sunny weather so we walked a lot too around the capital and breathe the unique atmosphere.

Here are the places we visited during our stay:

Cloud 9 Sky Bar&Lounge

This fancy bar is placed on the rooftop of Hilton hotel so it offers great view. We came here for drinks which are pretty special due to their unique combinations. Waiter will recommend you a drink if you are not sure what to choose and afterwards they will guide you – explain to you how to best enjoy the drink to be sure you will get the full experience.
Prices per cocktail are around 200-240 Czech crowns.

French bistro Le caveu and bakery

This little bistro, two stops by metro away from city center – stop Juriho z Podebrad, was a great stop for quick breakfast to take away – very jummy coffee and freshly baked French croissant. I was amazed by their little bakery which is next door to the bistro and offers home baked original French products. I definitely will have to come back here to try all the French baguettes, rolls, croissants, pain chocolate...

Dish burgers

People who know me will probably be surprised what the hell is this doing on my list of places I visited, as I’m more famous for my green/raw food, than meet, and burgers particular.
But whey open mind never hurt anybody so I gave it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised.
Dish is not just about the burgers is about the experience you get there. You can see that everything is thought thru, every detail has a meaning and altogether it creates unique atmosphere which you will like to experience over and over again. So when you enter this little bistro you enter the kitchen as well, so you can see how your food is made if you like, I love this interaction, the possibility to be aware how the ingredients look like before somebody create the end product  for you to try, so this was a great plus point for me. Dish is not a big place, has just couple of tables in smaller room, nicely decorated. Menu is not wide but you wouldn’t starve even if you don’t fancy a burger. All food is homemade, and it’s delicious. I’m not fan of burgers, so my opinion is irrelevant in this area, but Lucy (burger lover) was saying that it was great. But what I will definitely recommend are the fries which are made from real potatoes and you can choose between classic ones or one made from sweet potatoes, both taste lovely. And of course you have to dip them into some of their homemade dips - we tried Dish ketchup and Smoked chilli peppers mayo and we collectively decided the ketchup one was a real deal. As we were full to the top we didn’t try any deserts or coffee but it looked great too, especially the way they present it. If you fancy homemade lemonades they have a wide range of them too for you to try. As I’m a detailist i even loved the setting - various plates, cutlery and napkins they are using, as all of it fitted perfectly the rest of the atmosphere. Oh and i almost forgot, you have to have a reservation if you don’t want to miss this place.

Cukrkavalimonada

At this place we stopped just to grab a coffee and have some cake, which was a shame as I saw some of the food coming out to people. It’s not just patisserie but a restaurant too. The place looks awesome, cosy atmosphere is created thanks to smaller rooms(one on the left with the sweets bar and one on the right after you enter) surrounded by timber roof-beams, chalkboards, chandeliers and many other wooden details.
So we had coffee which was decent, babovka which was good but didn’t taste like actual babovka more like cake and a hot chocolate, which sadly wasn’t a real chocolate but chocolate pudding.
I will definitely come here another time to try some other things from their menu.

Yammy Asian noodle bar

This little noodle bar on Vaclavske namesti(square) was a great catch of Dominika, which she discovered, fall in love with their curry, and so she shared her experience with us. And yes she wasn’t wrong; the Phanaeng curry we tried tasted delicious, wasn’t too hot, too spicy just right in all flavours. If you like curries give it a go.

Cafe Louvre

We stopped here on our last day for breakfast before departure. This Parisian style cafe-restaurant teleports you back in old days when big people such as Kafka, Einstein, Capek and others were visiting this place regularly.
Breakfast was typical we had fresh squeezed orange juice, eggs, croissant and coffee (which was regular, not particular my taste).
Breakfast wasn’t anything special, it was more about the general atmosphere, but I will give it a try to come to try their lunch or some of their freshly made cakes and pastries.

Cafe-Cafe

Saturday night before heading out to dance we decided that we had to stop by in Cafe-Cafe for a sweat dot after our Thai curry. It was full, so in case you want to visit this place better to make reservation. So we left disappointed, but we didn’t give up and came back just before 11, when they are closing and we got a spare table to enjoy some of their delicious cake. Cafe-Cafe is cafe, bar, breakfast and brunch restaurant, so you can get anything here, but they are well known specially for their cakes, so if you will be there try some. We had a caramel cake and quark cherry cake, caramel one was a real-deal.

Angelato ice-cream

After the disappointment of not getting into Cafe-Cafe we saw across the street Angelato so no brainer – we headed there. I took salty caramel and tiramisu flavour, the tiramisu tasted like water, salty caramel was fine, but overall I wasn’t that happy, maybe because I just love ice-cream so this was a disappointment comparing it to other placed I have been.

Cafe Imperial

Is a place which is on my list of the next Prague visit - as we didn’t get reservation this time, it was fully booked, no surprise when you look at pictures online. I love how the place looks like, I love how the food looks like so this is definitely something to give a chance to see and experience.

Clear head

Another place we didn’t visit as we had just about 48 hours so we had prioritise. But I was at this place couple of years back and once you find it (is quite hidden away) you will fall in love with it. Its vegetarian restaurant, where not only the atmosphere is nice but food is very untraditional and tasty. I’m sure that even hardcore meat eaters will be happy and satisfied after some of their delicious meals. So next time I’m in Prague i will definitely check out this place again.
